The idea of building a cultural centre in Leksand had been around for some time when a second competition was launched in 1980. Larger and better spaces were needed for the library, museum rooms for important collections, especially of local folk costumes and folk art, secure storage and study rooms for cultural-historical archives, and offices for the library and cultural administration. The initial plans also included a small concert hall – a lofty ambition for a municipality of 13,000 inhabitants.
