The planning of the new Allianz insurance building necessarily involved the urban redevelopment of a large area on the southeastern edge of Stuttgart's city centre. The perimeter block development was reinstated along three streets. The eaves height of the existing buildings—that is, the line of the building's upper edges visible from a pedestrian perspective—was incorporated into the new building. Taking Stuttgart's topography into account, the roofscape, as a facade visible from the slopes, received particularly careful design. Crucial to the building's positive appearance and its integration into the urban environment was the meticulous selection of building materials and colours.
