Future models of industrial production are a key objective of the two institutes for which this building was designed. Basic and applied research are brought together under one roof, with theoretical workspaces and laboratories arranged in a circle around the central experimental field. The chosen circular shape ensures close spatial and visual connections between the theoretical and experimental workspaces and the experimental field or production area, while allowing for a high degree of flexibility within the individual areas. The long-term flexibility of the main usable areas in university buildings is a prerequisite in the fundamental recommendations of the German Association of Higher Education Administrations.
