Herman Miller Distribution Centre in Chippenham/UK

The building of the first construction phase occupies approximately one-third of the site's buildable area. It serves as Herman Miller's distribution centre and simultaneously as a warehouse for raw materials and finished products. The building area was defined as a rectangle within the irregular site boundaries, and a ring road in the shape of a precise ellipse was constructed around it for access. The narrow ends of this ring road provide ample turning space for articulated trucks. As the new building is seen by motorists and train passengers (according to British Rail, 3 million annually) as the first building in Chippenham, it was designed as a landmark for Herman Miller: a well-designed, modern structure in strong contrast to the surrounding landscape.
