The Eketorp Museum, located on the southern tip of the island of Öland, was built on a long-established archaeological site, a so-called Fornborg. This term refers to a prehistoric or early historic fortified settlement. Eketorp comprises three construction phases spanning from the Migration Period to the Early Middle Ages. The houses of that time consisted of relatively low perimeter walls built of rubble stone. A thatched purlin roof, supported by one or two rows of posts, spanned the top.
