Schützenmatt School Complex in Solothurn / CH
The design was based on an analysis of the existing situation. The site is located on the eastern edge of the city of Solothurn, a flat area directly on the banks of the Aare River, bordered to the north and west by existing residential areas. With an access path oriented towards St. Ursen Cathedral, the most prominent architectural monument in the old town, the complex consciously relates to the city. This urban planning concept was of decisive importance in the competition for the school building. The outdoor spaces of the school complex are grouped around this access axis.
