The planning objective was to integrate the university into its surroundings. The existing green belt along the Sorge River was expanded with tree and shrub species naturally occurring at this location, both to improve the climate and to landscape the very expansive, flat terrain. This creation of a new "natural habitat" for native flora and fauna, which are increasingly displaced in today's densely populated, intensively used landscape, allows the seasonal changes to be perceived and experienced. The diverse, dense planting of trees and shrubs is intended to eventually create an opaque, spatial boundary and foster a natural community of life.
