Entrance Hall to the German Film Museum - German Institute for Film Studies

The Film Museum is located at the bridgehead of the Untermain Bridge, which connects Frankfurt's city centre with the Sachsenhausen bank of the Main River. The historic facades of the old building reflect the urban context. The facade facing Schweizer Straße—the continuation of the bridge—adopts the scale and articulation of the Gründerzeit-era apartment building facades opposite and adjacent to it. In contrast, the facade facing the Schaumainkai interprets the building's urban function at the head of the street; it is strongly articulated by a central projection whose monumental order of columns suggests a thematic ambition that is hardly substantiated by the original apartment layout.
