House Entrances in the Porz-Zündorf Residential Area near Cologne

Zündorf, a former fishing village, lies just a few kilometers from Cologne's city centre. Simple rows of single-family homes form the new residential quarter within the old village centre, between the main street and the Rhine. They convey the charm of a village that has grown organically over time, without resorting to folkloric elements or trendy accessories. The paths follow the topography, which dictates the form of the entrance, often without a front garden, extending into the streetscape via a platform or several steps. Benches next to the house entrances reinforce the impression of a village community space. Each platform is covered by a pergola. The door is recessed into the building, so the pergola does not need to provide weather protection.
