An architect concerned with the order of the environment must necessarily be convinced that architectural space—the home of all our endeavors—is meaningful. The quality of a space, its permanence as a "place," is among the fundamental values of humankind. The architect's efforts are not aimed at abstract and disjointed spaces, but at spaces whose order and boundaries are related to light and, as the great American architect Louis Kahn said, "to the connection with nature, to the fulfillment of being." Through the creation of space, each of my designs acquires a coherent system of qualities that express my pursuit of aesthetic order.
