The forest clearing on which the conference centre was built is surrounded by such tall trees that even a substantial building is not visible from any side – thus, the planning required less urban planning considerations than considerations of the location and the surrounding landscape. The building program, which was essentially intended to form a cohesive whole, was multifaceted and in some cases even burdened with requirements that were difficult to reconcile. The Rabanus Maurus Academy and the Frankfurt School of Social Work – two continuing education institutions of quite different character – were to be given their permanent home with conference and office spaces.
