Schütte Residential Building in Cologne-Müngersdorf
The house is located in a new development on the outskirts of Cologne. The plots are relatively expensive and were generally purchased by the upper middle class. The city redesigned the area, but a cohesive urban fabric failed to materialize. The streets are lined with detached single-family homes, each with the usual setbacks – a problem that fundamentally prevents any sense of urban cohesion. The current design, with its almost nonexistent facade, seemed to me the only just acceptable option.
