Residential Building Herrlich

The house is situated on a steep slope of a Black Forest foothill, descending to the Rhine plain and dotted with fruit trees. It is inhabited by a couple of scientists and their three children. The house is designed as a compact, three-storey structure, parts of which are partially embedded in the ground due to the hillside location. The weight of the masonry construction contrasts with the lightness of the ventilated, suspended steel roof. The entrance area, living room, dining area, and conservatory are freely arranged in terms of floor plan, yet are clearly defined spatially by the three-aisled structure of the building.
