The houses in both locations received a simple yet functional and low-maintenance renovation. The masonry was constructed with good insulation and, in Cavigliano, finished on the exterior with conventional plaster. Inside, a single layer of slurry plaster was applied to the masonry walls. All woodwork remained unpainted, so the windows were made of pine instead of fir. All sashes have double-glazed units. The resulting additional costs were offset by simple hardware, such as surface-mounted rather than concealed latches, and, for the smaller sashes, surface-mounted or recessed latches.
