The spacious house resembles a cluster of small houses due to its staggered, four-sided, sloping shed roofs. At its centre, towering above all other structures, lies the stairwell, its tower-like position emphasizing the importance of the staircase. A light and translucent structure, built over an octagonal base, ascends three floors from the basement to the gallery beneath the roof. Without any additional attachment to the exterior walls, the staircase is suspended by cantilevers from the four central posts. These cantilevers are visibly fastened to the posts with galvanized lag bolts and mortised into the stringer.
