Dortmund Light Rail Station
The "Stadtgarten" subway station is one of the three main stations on the inner city ring and, due to its immediate proximity to the town hall, theatre, and city park, holds particular urban planning significance. Its location amidst a future city park makes the concept of a transparent "garden house" almost a given. Thus, the choice of steel as the building material was a natural one, drawing inspiration from turn-of-the-century station models. The challenge was to connect the two staircases within a single station hall and to accommodate ancillary spaces for technical equipment, staff, ticket office, and other facilities.
