The summit of the Zugspitze is already densely built up. This meant that the design required less of a landscape-integrated approach and more of an urban planning approach, adhering to strict boundary constraints. The climatic conditions – snow depths exceeding six metres, frost down to -40°C, and winds up to 240 km/h – dictated the design objective: extensive prefabrication and thus short assembly time. The antennas we designed for the Raisting Earth Station represent the prototype for further design development on the Zugspitze: a "house within a house" structure with a shell of three interconnected aluminium HP rod shells enclosing a three-storey, modular, and adaptable inner building.
