The market square in Rheinberg is the distinctive urban space that characterizes this town. The richly decorated facades of the surrounding buildings and the imposing church tower, flanked by magnificent trees, beautifully frame the square, upon which stands the striking old town hall. The current location of the town hall leaves the market square free of new construction, yet maintains a strong spatial connection to this town centre together with the church. Fortunately, the area between the church and the town hall is already being developed as a pedestrian zone, further emphasizing this connection along with the covered forecourt that leads through the foyer to the hall's interior.
