I received the commission to redesign my town's main square in 1979. The mayor, himself an artist, was genuinely committed to bringing art closer to the citizens and asked for my advice on the square's design. Instead of simply offering his suggestions, I developed a comprehensive spatial planning study. A key requirement for completing the project was minimizing costs. Therefore, the old, irregular paving slabs were retained and primarily laid around the perimeter of the square. The new rectangular paving slabs had to have a consistent width for a pre-calculated length.
