Changins Research Institute is a complex structure where diverse functions exist in multiple, ever-changing relationships. The design concept is a prefabricated, continuous spatial structure without individual buildings or overly specialized floor plans. Instead, it features a sequence of shared spaces along an internal street, housing the school centre with classrooms and dormitories, and the research stations with a cafeteria, library, and auditorium. Many facilities are shared by students and researchers. Key features of the folded concrete structure include a spatial skeleton with large spans, serving simultaneously as the load-bearing structure and spatial boundaries; an integrated network of building services; and a shed roof form that accommodates skylights.
