Bavarian State Bank in Munich

The new building of the Bavarian State Bank is located in a busy area of Munich's city centre. Due to the traffic congestion on two adjacent streets, the competition brief called for public courtyards within the complex. Although accessible from all sides, these courtyards form an urban axis oriented towards St. Mark's Church, featuring a central fountain courtyard, shops, a gallery, restaurants, and a kindergarten. A varied sequence of spaces is created through sloping glazing above the foyer, arcades formed by downward-sloping facade pilasters, and glass pavilions in front of the shops.
