Head Office of Vereinigte Glaswerke GmbH in Aachen
The design brief for the headquarters of Vereinigte Glaswerke GmbH focused on the sensible use of glass as a functional and aesthetic building material. Sixty percent of the suspended aluminium facade consists of continuous window strips – the outer pane in Parsol green – while the remaining 40 percent comprises the parapet area made of ventilated, tempered glass units from Emalit. The maintenance balconies are glazed with Parsol green single-pane safety glass for the curved panes and laminated safety glass for the flat panes. Thermally broken vertical profiles, 80 mm wide, spaced at 1.60 m intervals and without visible horizontal connections, allow the glass to dominate and convey an impression of lightness.
