Energy-efficient Subsidised Housing in Ansbach

In Bavaria a government-sponsored program named “e %” is exploring how to optimise the energy-efficiency of subsidised housing. In this basement-free apartment house the building massing has a width of 16 metres, making it compact. The windows in the stairwells and lintelless windows and light-toned reveals in the apartments guarantee that there is plenty of daylight in the spaces; nevertheless, the design maintains a favourable ratio of openings to opaque surfaces. Hence, with a highly insulated envelope it was possible to erect an economical, simple wooden structure that is 40 percent more energy efficient than the German Energy Conservation Act requires.
