The Tonhalle was built in 1876 according to the plans of Johannes Boesch, a student of Gottfried Semper. The removal of a single-storey corner extension restored the building's originally symmetrical entrance facade. The foyer extends over three floors. The ground floor, with the Tonhalle's two main entrances, forms the middle level. Here, beneath the sloping floor of the concert hall, are the cloakrooms for the stalls and balcony. The side staircases lead to the basement foyer with a bar, coffee shop, and restrooms, and to the balcony concourse with additional cloakrooms.
