The building was in poor condition not only as a result of later additions and alterations. Poor soil conditions had led to uneven settlement, which had a particularly deforming effect on the interior, especially at the freestanding pillars, causing large, uneven arch thrusts. Reinforced concrete bored piles, supported by additional reinforced concrete foundation beams, now bear the entire load of the structure. A reinforced concrete slab was installed above the hall's vaults, relieving the load on the vaults and connecting the exterior walls.
