Diocesan Museum Eichstätt

The task was to integrate the diocesan museum into historic buildings; spaces of varying quality had to be brought into a cohesive design. A medieval granary next to the cathedral and Baroque rooms above the mortuary were available. The granary—the so-called Kipfenberg barn—had been so severely disrupted in its internal structure and construction by the addition of a hall in the 1980s that there were initial doubts as to whether the beautiful, old roof truss could be preserved. However, this was achieved with the help of a steel structure.
