Expansion of the Foyer of the Security Council in the UN Building in New York

The expansion of the foyer was a gift from the Federal Republic of Germany to the UN in 1978. The design was commissioned through a competition, to which various artists and architects were invited. What existed was the shell of a series of newly constructed rooms, complete with building services (air conditioning, etc.). In the traditional sense, space is a framework for a work of art. In this case, the space itself is the artwork. Sequences of variations are rhythmically structured in visible fields, through changes in colour and material, in sequences and pauses: a dynamic spatial score.
