Ecumenical Senior Citizens' Centre Kaieraue, Bochum-Grumme
The landscape of the Grumme district was originally characterized by meadows, a stream, and farmsteads. In the 19th century, a somewhat haphazard miners' settlement developed. After the closure of the neighboring coal mines in the 1960s, efforts were made to regenerate the wooded areas and the stream meadow, as well as to improve the overall residential area. As the culmination of these measures, the senior citizens' centre was built on the former land created by relocating a road and demolishing the old miners' canteen.
