Terraced Housing in Bielefeld

The Lohmannshof development, near the university, borders a closed housing estate dating from the 1920s. The architects designed 15 terraced houses in three different types. Type A features an additional room on the ground floor next to the entrance, compared to Type C. The three-storey Type B was added to broaden the range of housing options and as a welcome opportunity to introduce vertical variation into the row of houses. The aim was to achieve maximum flexibility of use and thus living comfort within the modest dimensions of such terraced houses, without sacrificing spatial experiences and appeal.
