The restaurant is part of the new pedestrian zone in the city centre, Eidsvold Square and Studenterlunden, located between the Parliament Building (Stortinget) and the Royal Palace. The overall plan—based on an urban design competition—included extensions for the National Theatre and the National Gallery, the expansion of the metro system, two open-air restaurants, and the design of the surrounding urban environment. Completed in 1980, the pavilion restaurant, belonging to a neighboring hotel, is situated in front of the theatre's main entrance, along with a reconstructed bandstand.
