Historical Museum in Takasaki/Japan

The Gumma District Museum of Local History, together with the Museum of Contemporary Art, forms a museum complex connected by a shared wing. The two museums are integrated into the park area in such a way that the existing trees have been largely preserved. The actual exhibition area of the historical museum is arranged around a garden courtyard; it consists of corridor-like halls for the permanent exhibitions along the long sides of the courtyard, covered by deeply sloping, hipped roofs, and centrally located alcoves with tent roofs, embedded within the main halls and along the short sides of the courtyard.
