Recreation Centre for Rheumatism Patients in Heerde/Netherlands

The National Rheumatism Fund Foundation in The Hague commissioned the architects to design a recreation centre for people with disabilities and their families or partners. The centre consists primarily of a hotel, 16 bungalows, a manager's apartment with an office and small shop, and an administrative building. Location: The recreation centre is situated in a beautiful 22-hectare wooded area, along the main road from Appeldorn to Zwolle. Prior to the planning phase, a detailed inventory of the wooded area was conducted, including aerial photography. Only trees deemed unworthy of preservation were permitted to be felled, and the design stipulated that only existing paths could be used. The buildings had to be integrated into this context and designed accordingly.
