European Patent Office in Munich

In the 1960s, the Federal Republic of Germany applied to host the European Patent Office in Munich as a European institution. Although no final location had been decided upon until 1970, a two-stage international competition was launched that same year. The area between Corneliusstrasse and Kohlstrasse, and between Baaderstrasse and Erhardtstrasse – a 29,000 square metre plot of land in the immediate vicinity of the German Patent Office and the Deutsches Museum – was initially considered as a potential site for the competition.
