Terraced Houses in Louvain-la-Neuve/Belgium

On a plot of just 600 m², four detached houses, each with a living room and at least three bedrooms, a small garden, and garages, were to be built. The plot is bordered to the north by a pedestrian path and to the south by a road. The four houses, each 8.60 m wide with a ground floor area of 60 m², could be accommodated within the available facade width of 34 m. The small, south-facing gardens are shielded from view by the garages. The key element of the design is the central, diagonally positioned stairwell with its spiral staircase. This arrangement allowed for a 45 m² living area on the ground floor, in addition to the kitchen and utility rooms.
