The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra's summer concert hall is located in Fairmont Park, adjacent to one of the oldest summer concert halls in America, and conveniently situated near the city's residential areas. The site on which the new open-air theatre was built is shielded from traffic noise by earth embankments. Designed for a wide range of musical and musical theatre performances, the facility includes an amphitheater-style grandstand that rises with the terrain, offering 10,000 seats in its uncovered rear section and 5,000 seats (stalls and balcony) in its covered front section, a stage house, and, in its basement, dressing rooms, technical facilities, administrative offices, and ancillary spaces.
