Situation: According to the mandate of the Nieuwegein city administration, this community centre was to be proportioned within the existing open development of the neighbourhood in such a way as to preserve the traditional character of the area. This involved, among other things, incorporating directly adjacent eaves and ridge lines, as well as vertical structures. Although the building program was relatively large, the division into individual, interrelated building volumes allowed for an organic integration of the whole into the existing built environment, with the building site being used intensively and to its full depth through optimal development.
