Winery in Bargino

 - Claudia Fuchs

The Antinori winery south of Florence seems to merge with the Tuscan landscape. This large complex, containing the production spaces and the headquarters of a winegrowing family with a long tradition, is almost completely buried in the surrounding hills. The only visible elements are two facade strips between the vine-planted roof areas, a scuptural Corten-steel staircase and retaining walls in reddish-brown exposed concrete that re-sembles the colour of the earth. The almost 40,000 m² development in two volumes is integrated into the sloping site.
