Workshop in Uckermark

 - Marion Griese

The desire to live and work under one roof motivated the client, a carpenter and product designer, to purchase and remodel this metalworking shop. The walls, originally not insulated, were refurbished and the middle segment, which housed offices, was razed. In its place he built a generously glazed wood structure. The tri-partite arrangement is clearly legible. The most striking transformation: the envelope now makes the massing appear to merge with the surrounding landscape. Green corrugated metal gently wraps around the surfaces. Even the entrance and windows disappear behind the material, which is perforated here. Red beveled-siding gable facades, in contrast, are a nod to the local building tradition.
