Conversion of a grain silo in Middelburg

Rothuizen Architects, which has branches in Middelburg, Breda and in the Polish city of Poznán, enjoy the challenge presented by unusual existing buildings. During the decade prior to their move, the Middelburg branch of the office had been located in the former municipal town barn, which the architects also converted themselves. Over time however, this became too cramped and proved itself too inflexible for their way of working. The architects prefer teamwork, often in different constellations and with varying numbers of freelance colleagues. Open plan offices are far better suited to this way of working than cellular offices.
