The eight-storey high-rise, which primarily houses the scientific work areas divided into departments (offices, laboratories, workshops, etc.), is constructed as a modified triple-bay structure with service cores, stairwells, and elevator shafts located at the ends. Each floor contains one work area, while special-purpose rooms, ancillary rooms, and restrooms are located in the large central core, and the technical control rooms are in the basement. The German Meteorological Service's weather station, along with the institute's maintenance and measurement laboratories, is located on the roof. The building is constructed using a hybrid method, with load-bearing heavy concrete walls on the interior and load-bearing lightweight concrete walls on the exterior, bonded together with load-bearing rectangular tubes made of weathering steel.
