The Regensburg State Fire Academy trains officers and specialists from the Bavarian volunteer fire service and industrial fire brigades in week-long courses. The 120 students, all seasoned firefighters, live on the school premises. The school facilities were built between 1974 and 1977, with the exception of the training stands necessary for pump operators. These, along with the technical facilities for a testing and inspection centre, were constructed starting in 1979. The building project: The school building is located north of Lappersdorf at the foot of the western slope of the Regen Valley, between an industrial park and a small residential area. The client required a compact facility. Outdoor routes were undesirable because the courses were primarily held in winter. To ensure weather-independent training, a 40 x 60 m training hall with a clear height of 7 m or 15 m was constructed.
