This Japanese two-family house is clearly structured by its largely exposed timber frame, infilled with floor-to-ceiling glazing, with the horizontal emphasis on the sequence of floors dominating the design. The building's symmetry is accentuated by the vertical white band of exterior wall, which closes off the centrally located stairwell on the garden side, as well as by axial window surfaces in the upper-floor gable ends, which are otherwise closed off with solid walls. The street-facing facade has largely solid walls. The central stairwell separates the apartments on both levels, which are laid out according to the same floor plan. The bedrooms are located on the upper floor, while the living rooms face the garden on the ground floor and the kitchens face the street.
