Cultural Centre in Amersfoort/ Netherlands
The city's initial plan envisioned a much larger complex on the square near the centre (with pedestrian access to the Groenmarkt and the Liebfrauenturm), comprising a theatre and city hall in separate buildings. In subsequent years, the program was simplified, and the plans were revised with a focus on preserving and renovating the old town, harmonizing it with the surrounding buildings. The aim was to sacrifice as few of the old residential buildings as possible for the new construction.
