Overall concept: The "Seldwyla" cooperative, founded in 1967 by six architects, aimed to create a residential complex of detached houses in the style of a vibrant new village structure. Instead of the mass and monotony found in many block buildings and terraced houses, and the exaggerated individualism of the "villa," this complex was to be formed by a manageable structure of "interconnected houses, each with its own individual character." Situation and clients: For this pre-defined overall concept, a 2-hectare sloping plot of land was chosen in a neighbourhood of Zumikon, which itself is primarily characterized by park-like trees and villas dating from around the turn of the 20th century.
