Shopping Pavilions in Rotterdam

Nine years ago, a group of exhibition pavilions was erected in Rotterdam's city centre on Coolsingel for the C70 exhibition. These have now been replaced by permanent buildings as part of a pedestrian zone in the city centre, intended for long-term use as shops and a café. The new building complex incorporates key design elements of the earlier pavilions: the distinctive roof domes, the transparency of the lower building zone, and the floor plan resulting from the interlocking pavilion squares. This plan, with its courtyard-like recesses, wraps around existing trees and accommodates the existing underground utility lines.
