Building and Functional Layout: Due to the density of the urban area, the two-storey building complex of the British Steel Corporation/Rotterdam computer centre is divided into two functional areas: the computer department and the programming department. The reinforced concrete base is partially below ground level. This base features an earth embankment at a 30° angle, with lawns from which only a brick-clad foundation wall emerges. The computer hall and ancillary rooms (Telex, switchboard, operating rooms, service and reception area) are located here. A largely glazed, steel-framed pavilion, housing open-plan offices, the programming department, and office space, stands atop this base. The pavilion is heightened by two roof structures: one is glazed on all sides and illuminates the stairwell below, while the other houses the technical and air conditioning equipment.
