Architect-designed House with Granny Flat in Frankfurt/Main.

The house shown here is part of a group of four houses. It is accessed via a private road where the utility lines are located. The design objectives were simplicity in construction and design, restraint in the choice of resources and materials, ease of use, and a spacious layout. The house features a timber frame with a 2.00 m column grid above a reinforced concrete foundation, infilled with sand-lime brick masonry, and clad with timber sheathing and either glass wool insulation or insulated glazing. Horizontal bracing is provided by a wood-chipboard windbreak in the roof, and vertical bracing by a central reinforced concrete core to which the longitudinal and transverse beams are connected.
