Shop Centre in Schiedam/Rotterdam
The new shopping centre in the Schiedam-Kethel urban expansion, west of Rotterdam, was originally part of a larger development plan linked to a station on the planned Schiedam-Rotterdam metro line. The delay in expanding public transport in this area necessitated a scaled-back redesign. The single-storey buildings of the shopping centre are grouped around a 140-metre-long pedestrian street connecting the two districts. This street features plazas, setbacks and projections, and cross streets leading to the parking areas. The shopping arcade is partially covered at the periphery and fully covered in the centre, with the transparent roof providing shelter from the rain without compromising the street's character.
