Urban planning context: The redevelopment area of Commercial Street, a former Georgian shopping street in the historically significant Scottish town of Perth (near Edinburgh), lies below landscaped Georgian river terraces, between two old bridges on the River Tay, which flows through the town. While initial plans called for the renovation of the existing buildings (90 houses with small shops), their poor structural condition and unacceptable living standards necessitated the demolition of the entire street.
