Located in the South London district of Brixton, Slip House by Carl Turner Architects – that is home to both the architect and his family as well as his office − was conceived as part of a soon-to-be-completed terrace of houses. The house consists of a steel framework, exterior walls made of structural insulated panels (SIPS) and a rainscreen cladding of U-shaped glass profiles. With the exception of the white rendered party walls, the building envelope has U-values in the range of typical Passive Houses. Heating is provided by a geothermal heat pump and distributed via thermally activated concrete floor slabs. Eight hybrid PV and solar thermal panels on the roof terrace provide hot water and part of the building’s electricity needs.
